One messaging app across web, desktop and phone
An AI-assisted messaging app that brings WhatsApp, Discord and other networks into one inbox and suggests replies in the user's own voice. I worked across the web app, the desktop app and a mobile app I built from scratch.
- Platforms
- Web, macOS, Windows, mobile
- Role
- Senior frontend engineer
- Stack
- React, Electron, React Native
What the app does
Users connect their messaging accounts and read and answer every conversation in one place. While they type, the app suggests replies written in their own voice. It runs in the browser, as a desktop app and on the phone.
The chat experience
- Typing indicators, read receipts, markdown, link previews and an in-app image viewer
- A virtualised message list that stays smooth in long conversations
- AI reply suggestions in the composer, available once the user has set up a voice profile
- Live updates through Firestore listeners instead of polling
Connecting accounts
I built the connection flows for each network: WhatsApp linking with a phone number and pairing code, and Discord activation by QR code, with clear progress and loading states while history syncs.
Desktop
The Electron app adds native notifications that check the operating system's permission, Apple sign-in through a deep-link redirect, and translated update banners.
Mobile
I built the React Native app from scratch: tab navigation, chat with date separators, room members with search, chat settings, profile editing, an integrations page and a dark theme that matches the iOS design.
